Black opals are unique to Australia only and are one of the most sought out opal. They name black opal is used to indicate the tone of the opal and does not accurately reflect the rainbow of colours present in the opal. The black Opal is known as the “lucky gem from the lucky country” and is the gemstone emblem of New South Wales. The black opal is not the most durable opal and has a similar strength of glass, however adequate protection can ensure a prolonged lifetime.
